Post Are turkeys just not procreating anymore?
Went out this morning after big thunderstorms yesterday evening and last night. Did not hear a single gobble all morning. Left at 8am drove past a field that borders our property. Had a big strutter in the field, blown up and all alone. I snuck down the side of the field to about 100 yards away just inside the wood line. Called softly and he cut me off and in full strut. Waited about 10 minutes and I can still see him strutting around with no intention of coming my way. I amp it up a little with same result. Each call he cuts me off and eventually just walks away strutting. No other hens calling no nothing. So I guess my question is did I just run across a super smart turkey or is the breeding pretty much over?

Maybe so, I never saw or heard her. This went on for probably 30 minutes or more.

Remember in nature the hens are supposed to go to the gobbler. He was waiting on you to come to him. He was showing himself and expecting the hen to come.....sometimes you just can win.
