This story hurts for me to even write it but i always put my kills on here so need to put my failures also. This morning not much at all going on around my spot. So decided to go grab a biscuit and take off were i knew some birds were and stick it out to quitn time.After alot of walking i spot a strutter in the field with 2 hens so made a game plan and took off. I used the terrain in my favor to get about 100 yds from him. Gave him some soft talk but nothin! Its was 11:00 so decided to pick up my pace and still no answers! Then i see a hen headed my way and knew he should be somewhere with her. Wasnt long till i see the tail fan and thought hot dog. He gets around 40 yds and the hen bust me so i thought its now or never. I shot and down he went. so i take off to him and he down but his head was up looking around. I thought i should shoot him again and took the safety off and had his head in the diamond of my scope and thought no dont want to do this i will just stomp his head with my size 14 boot! Well when i did he got up and took off! I took off after him and threw a desperate shot at him but nothing. He actually ran into a bobwire fence and feathers were everywhere. Man i hate that! I keep aksing myself why didnt i shoot him again. Just stupidity on my part!! It was actually blood coming from his head when i got to him also!!! Doug |

Doug, sorry to hear that.Did he fly far maybe you could get a Lab on its scent. |

Thats the most rotten feeling, they are tough birds sometimes. Takes a while to get past these ones. |

Sorry that happened. Lots of people don't understand that we as hunters really do feel guilt and sorrow when this sort of thing happens. |

It happens ! Had one last year get away from me. I chased him for 200 yards! Never could get a clean shot for having to sprint after him... |

I had a 30 minute therapy session with a co-worker on Friday that had the same thing happen. It's tough... keep plugging along and chalk it up to a lesson learned. |
