Post Tagged out on wet turkey
This morning headed out bymyself in hopes to find some birds. Well i was going to get in my blind so if the rain hit i would keep dry. I got my long box screaming hen out last night thinking ive hit these birds with mouth callers so i try a new call on them today. Wasnt long before they started gobbling across a powerline. I gave them a soft tree yelp with a mouth caller but no answer. After listening to them gobbling decent on the roost i yelp with my box call and they hammered back at me. So i readjust my seat to look toward them. They worked there way around me and was heading across the top of the field. I figured i better get out this blind and make a circle to get in front of them. I had a feeling were they was heading and its on the side of the farm were the interstate is. I made my way around them and ease up to the field and gave a call and was answered but the noise of the interstate confused me of how far away they was. I decided to sit down there and good thing because as soon as i did and got my gun up on my knee i see a red head heading to me. The first 2 was jakes and then the longbeard follwed them. At 40 yds i squeeze the trigger and dropped my last bird of the year. When i got to him the first thing i made sure of that his head wasnt up if so he was going to get another load in him!!! He was a lightweight 15.5 lbs,10.5 beard and 1 inch spurs! The rest of the season will be taking Dad, Shane and some friends!
