It's really sad to hear it's hard to imagine how many get shot each year..

It definitely makes you think. At a slit second someone’s misjudged target and it’s over.
It was a 70 year old fella who pulled the trigger. I talked with some guys today who knew them both.
They had been hunting together for more than 10 years. Word is the old man is not doing well at all.
I heard but cannot be certain, that he was also taken to the hospital, suffering from stress attacks.
My heart aches for all involved. In 1994 I lost a good friend from high school to a hunting accident.
He had shot a deer with his black powder and went looking for it. As he crested the hill one of members in his hunting party heard the shot, heard the leave and thought it was the deer, as Alvin came over the raise, the hunter pulled his trigger and shot Alvin in the neck. He died right in that spot. The man who shot Alvin, was Alvin dad’s lifelong best friend, they were neighbors. To this day I don’t think they have spoken since the funeral. The fella who shot Alvin was charged with reckless use of a fire arm, involuntary manslaughter, hunting with a shotgun during black powder season. He was using slugs, acting as if he was shot black powder.
The news last night and every time I hear something like this brings back the horrible day I got that phone call.

A man was killed where I live in deer season a few years back. They said the guy thought he was a bobcat. Bobcat season wasn't even in.

If you don't see the color of their eyes.....

So sad yet makes me so mad at the same time. 70 years old, he had a life time of experience not to shoot at noise and/or movement.

i have had the privilege to hunt with kb and ray on the eastern shore. i am not close friends with either of them, but both men are the type of people that you meet and you feel like you have known for a long time. this is a very tragic accident that is difficult for all who know them, and hopefully for other hunters it will be a sad but important lesson that maybe will help save someone in the future. i don't know all of the details of what happenend, but what i have heard from friends who are very close to them is the men were separated, one or both moved without communicating, and the mistaken identification of the target was a decoy and unknowingly who was in the line of fire of the decoy.
