Hunted two days on Camp Mountain with my brother-in-law Darel..

04-29-13
Darel got this tom around 0730. 19 pounds, 10” beard, 7/8 spurs. The exact same spot he scored in 2009.

At first light on the opposite side of the mountain I sent this male coyote to the happy hunting grounds. I heard it bark behind me. One hen cluck was all it took.

Today we were surrounded by at least eight male turkeys from 0900 to 1045 . The mature gobblers sent the jake brigades in twice to make sure the coast was clear. The jakes went back and reported hearing the hen but not seeing her. The toms gravitated back up the mountain.

Will be back Saturday. We know where they live.

The black flies are out. Long live Thermacell 

It was a very eventful morning. Right after 5AM we heard gobbles from most directions. Unfortunately the better sounding gobbles were at a distance.

We had a jake sounding off a couple fields to our north. As soon as we heard he was on the ground, assembly yelps filled the airways. It wasn't ten minutes before he made his presence. BIL had a video camera set up on tripods in the blind. This was a first for me filming a turkey hunt.

Ole Jake put on quite a strutting and gobbling show. He was definitely the Ground Blind Boss. He filtered onto the private property south of us trying his best to find a lady friend. My cutting looking for his daddy lured him back two more times. I told BIL many times I wished my son was here. That bird has his name written on it with neon lights.

The third time Ole Jake came back BIL got this fuzzy cell phone picture. He passed by the blind so close I could see his eyes blink. After his gobbles we had to wipe the spit off our glasses.

Thank you Lord for this great day to be alive on your Mother Earth. Amen!
