Had a turkey hunting buddie over tonight for a cook out and of course talk cenetered around turkey hunting. Well the wifes sent us to the turkey room dungeon to finish our talk after the meal.

It is what preference does one have so far as locater calls, that is a reed type or open barrel such as the P.S. Olt owl call. Now I for one prefer to let the birds go off on their own and to the real owls, crows, geese etc. But when all else failes I will break out the crow and owl call.

I for one lean towards the no reed calls. Just woundering what others prefer.

I like the Gibson crow calls and the Tom Teasers. The 1 on the left is 1 of my favorite Gibson calls and the 1 on the right is the Tom Teaser. I have 2 other Gibson crow calls and his calls can range anywhere between $25.00 to over $100.00. I would love to have 1 of his crow calls with the bamboo liner for it is an awesome call.

Striker3000, Gibson is a good call. I used to have the Fat Boy one.

I do believe a friend of mine has one with the bamboo liner, will have to ask. He gets a lot of good responses from it in the spring.

TC-87 Haydel triple tone crow call. Cheap and flat out kills crows in Feb/March when I'm done waterfowlin and kills gobblers when I'm ready to find light bulb head

I 'd rather have a reeded owl call over the hoot flute's but over the past few years i learned how to mimic and owl pretty good with my own voice i get'em going it's pretty cool to call a barrel owl up. I have had them fly right up to the limb above me. I rarely use locators if i semi know the birds in the area i try an get in way before light and try setting up in strutting zones, now if i'm somewhere new i will way before the regular gobbletime right when the first cardinal sings.

Hooks Hootin Sticks sound real good!

Door slam or thunder works real well sometimes, but its hard to make either portable.

Haydel crow and my natural voice owl hooting... I also carry an old Perfection crow, but generally the Haydel gets it done. Keep an old Primos Triple Shock in my vest along with a hawk whistle. Will occasionally goose call ony one of my tube calls if I'm around the lake.
