What's PA-08 mean on the paper??

PA-08 is Weatherby's 300.00 pump gun.

Would the Win HV#6's be reliable enough for 40 yds...or would #5's be better?

Yep...We shot the Franchi at 40 and had 192 hits but the shot was way below POA so I did not post it. The PA-08 has 182 hits on 10". Not sure what a good count is on this mag blend but 80 hits to head and neck should give him a headache :smt003

Describe the mag blend pellet count ,size and material(lead?) Thks. I prefer paterns like the 6's myself.

Only if you had the same or more hits. If not stick with the sixes.

We did a lot of pattern
testing and talking on here in past years and standardized our tests by shooting at a
regular 8.5 by 11 paper with a 3.5" circle in the middle. 100 on paper with 10 in the circle was considered
a 100% killing pattern at whatever range this could be achieved consistently (every time). That said, I encourage limiting shots to 40 yds and let the rest be insurance as many things start to get iffy beyond that range. Good luck, you are doing your homework and that usually pays dividends.

Thanks BD...I was mainly wondering if 6's were commonly used or shots out to 40 yds...growing up always thought 4 and 5 lead shot was used for Turkey especially out that far. Seems like my gun is capable of good patterns using the cheaper loads...think I will now try different cheaper loads to see which is best. Any suggestions? Think the 6's I used for the above pattern was Win Supreme high velocity 3"...anything else I should consider?

I shoot the win. 3" hv 6s and have for years. They work well in my gun. Sometimes different manufacturers shells make a difference, as do diff. payloads and shot sizes. You just have to experiment when possible. Best way is to split boxes with others so you each get to pattern multiple loads.

The pattern with #6 is great but the problem is the penetration may not be adequate. The sources of information I have found regarding penetration indicate that lead #6 is good to about 35 yds. All of the denser-than-lead #6 shot is ok at 40 yds or a little more.

Thats what I had heard or read somewhere but BD must have no problems.

The 3 in wincheater supremes or federal shells in lead sixes will kill to fifty yds or more. Imo and experience. Assuming you hit bird with good paatern in head neck.

I can assure you that 6s, especially copper plated sixes are lethal to and beyond 40 yds.
We are talking head shots here. I do back my #6 up with 4s in case a running, flying, body shot is needed to break wings or legs but the fours I have are very, very old.
