Took a job in SC, living in Clinton. Anyone know any good public land worth checking out? I am working on a couple private land spots. Thought yall might know some good public land and be willing to share since your way up in virginia.

I only hunted a couple public lands in SC one was Ft. Jackson and the other was the Francis Marion National Forest. I do know that the turkey population is coming back since a storm hit that area hard sometime around 90. It was very good hunting before and I have heard it is rebounding very well since then.

There are also some good WMA's there but there are some that are quato and drawing hunts.

Best thing to do is get on their web site and call the DNR. I have found that the DNR in all States that I have contacted will give you up to date turkey populations and some of the better areas to hunt. They have sent me maps already marked.

But make sure that when you call ask for the State turkey biologist. He/she are very helpfull.

That is one State I have a friend that has private land.

Have hunted sumpter nat forest. Found birds, you have to get off the roads like anywhere else. Study the forest maps, it is broken up and many small tracts interspersed with private farmland. The small tracts adjacent to farmland and the river bottoms were the most productive for us.

Thought I recognized Clinton you're right at SNF.
