I have read that some of you hunt and camp in the national forests and I and some others over on the Goose hunting chat site, may even know some of them, were kickin around getting up a camping trip. Wondered if any of you thet have done this could get us on the right track getting this together. Any good areas to check out? Any tips from you experienced campers? How bout hunting/fishing? Heard that talking to Park personnel could assist in scouting areas? Just not sure how to even start planning this.

Thanks

DW, I know a great place you and your friend should check out. North River Camp Ground, it located in the George Washington National Forest. It’s about 40 minutes past Staunton VA off 250. It’s a primitive camp site, surrounded by three running steams. It’s really one stream running from the Staunton Dam Reservoir. I not turkey hunted up there, but I have deer hunted there for the past 40 years. It’s a Beautiful area to visit. Fishing is permitted, but you will need National Forest permit.
Plenty of space to spread out and relax. If you don’t want to stay in the camp ground there are plenty of areas to pull off and sit up camp.
