Post I need some advice
My 15 y.o. son and I are going out Turkey hunting for the first time. We live in Chesapeake. Looking for a good WMA area to hunt or some advice on where we should go for a successful and safe area to hunt. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I don't want to dissapoint my son.

Thanks.

I know nothing about that part of Virginia, but I can almost assure you that any time you get to spend with your son in the woods, will be time well spent, especially if he is eager to get outdoors. Regardless of whether a trigger has been pulled, I always enjoy outings with my dad.

I don't know any of the reg's, whether or not you need a special permit or not, but the Dismal Swamp is supposed to be pretty hot.

Tburt is right on. If you're with him in the woods, have no fear of disappointing your son. I hunted deer with my dad for two years before either of us made a kill . . . and those times are the reason I'm a die-hard hunter now. Some of the best memories of my life are those first years with my dad . . . although we went home with an empty truck bed most of the time.

Hey there, and welcome to the site. My name is Tim Mizell. I live in Chesapeake as well. You might want to try to WMA Chickohomy over in Jame City county. It's about an 75 mile drive ,but it a good place to hunt.I have to warn you there are alot of hunter in those woods .But being that the season is coming to an end the pressure might not be as bad. There are a few more smaller WMA in the area but I have never hunted them. If you don't mind the drive , you could try the G. Washington Nat. Forest. It's about a 4- 4 1/2 drive depending where you would be headed. What part of Chesapeake are you from? I grew up in Deep Creek , but live in Great Bridge / Hickory. Wish I could be more help.
