DOUBLE THIS A.M.
Heard nothing....walked and called until 6:40. Decided to split up between the two fields on our place...roughly 250 yds. apart through the woods (maybe 300yds.) Hit my Cody slate around 7:10am and let out a few yelps and some excited cutts. Roughly 20 min. later I heard walking in the leaves to my right. I see turkeys coming my way but could not tell what they were. Closer they get I see it is 3 jakes in a single file 1st 1 inch beard- 2nd 3 inch beard- 3rd 5.5 inch beard. They crossed in front of me at about 10 steps and hit the road to check out my decoy. The all stand there looking a little nervous.....the biggest one breaks in to full strut and they begin walking down the road. LUCKILY they all three stopped behind the same tree and I raised my gun. The strutter steps out and I nail him. I stand up to pick him up and Dad shoots on the other field....15 to 20 sec. later. Apparently, I let out a few yelps at his spot with my slate and then left to go to my spot (he forgot to bring his calls this a.m.....he is getting forgetful!). From the other end of the field he sees what looks like a fan and then he sees it is a big gobbler in full strut working toward his decoy. He was trying not to shoot him in full strut and had no call to make him raise his head. When I shot my gobbler..his gobbler raised his head, and then dad squeezed the trigger on this guy. First ever double!....and he of course forgot his camera.! He had no face mask and borrowed a pair of my work socks to cover his hands since he forgot his gloves. I walked back to the truck and we met at the fork in the road.......we were laughing so hard we couldn't talk for 10 min!!!!!
Mine: 14.75 lbs. 5.5 in. beard
Dad: 20.5 lbs. 10.5 in. beard. 1 inch spurs.
