close, but no turkey
As some of you know, me and my son went out on the junior day in PA. We started walking to our spots we had picked out the night before and as we approached, we heard a gobble about 150 yards out. We went a little bit closer and then siron horns went off and all hell broke loose. Gobbles erupted about 50 yards beside us and so we hurried and set the decoys out. We let them fly down and began calling. Everytime we called, they answered until finally they came within sight out by our inside corner we picked. The turkeys then stopped and looked at the turkey decoys 45 yards out. Coming closer they stopped once again and began moving along the field edge. My son and I then noticed, that they were all Jakes. In hoping of bagging one my son let a shot loose but the only thing we saw was gobbler flying away. Soon after we relocated and called again and they answered but would not come in. Overall it was a good day and we both enjoyed it a lot. I guess we just will hope to have better luck next time.
