Slow morning. We are pulling out. Heard 2 birds way off the property but they are just not here or not using the property. 1 hen seen by 4 groups of hunters.

Setup again for the afternoon. Its warm... 80 degrees plus. Thermacell is cooking. We are on a new farm and saw a couple hens on the way in. My man Kyle is the triggerman!

This spot is a powerline right of way and one of the guys heard a turkey in here earlier in the week.

Another slow afternoon. Turkeys are just not around.

Will give it a shot on a quick hunt in the morning and then head home!

Will be back next weekend at a different place a little further west and south of here. Hope the birds are there and more cooperative.

The bright side is the food and fellowship is good!

Sorry for the lack of reports from this hunt... there was no cell service anywhere close... I mean D-E-A-D!

Anyway... Teddy and I hunted basically 2 days and were in birds both mornings.

We had a gobbler the first morning at about 60 yards but he shyed away from the decoys and slipped over to some real hens yelping in the swamp. Later in the morning we had another bird coming in and a bit of an untimely shift by Ted sent him packing. It's hard to get used to how close those birds can be when they sound so far away. He has never hunted down there and got busted thinking the bird was further away. Those WIDE open burnt pines didn't help matters! :)

The afternoons were very slow but we managed to call in several hens in a couple sets. In fact, we called in several single and pairs of hens. No boyfriends in tow.

The last morning we heard a couple birds gobble way off the property (the bain of my Low Country hunting is the birds always seem to roost and stay on the neighbors property!). Mid-morning we had a hen start talking to us and fired up a pair of gobblers off the property. She marched right into our setup but the gobblers hung back at 100 yards gobbling and then finally drifted back to parts unknown.

We had a good trip... we were in birds and with a couple breaks could have easily killed one or two. It was a good experience for Ted and he had never hunted in that part ofthe world.

Bring on the youth opener!!! :)
