Post Short but Sweet
My morning was the shortest turkey hunt i have ever been on and harvested a bird.

After parking the truck, i cut across a field towards a low ridge. Before i got halway across, a bird gobbled in the same area i killed my bird opening day. I got to the oak flat but never heard a nother sound. I thought i knew where he was. Wrong! I set out a decoy and sat in the same spot as before thinking he was about 100 yards out on the ridge. After settling back in, he gobbled again. 60-70 yards away on the flat. I just knew i was busted. As soon as it got enough to see, i saw him strutting on the limb. He must have seen my decoy because he started gobbling repeatedly. I was worried he would spook. Nope, he just kept strutting and gobbling on the limb. Some hens started yelping behind me an di thought i might be ok. He finally flew down about 30 yards out and immedi. went to strut. I putted once. He raised his head and it was over.

20 lbs.
10 1/2 inch beard
1 inch spurs.

GN, opening weekend, with tthe bad weather, no gobbles. Last weekend, heard 1 distant gobble. THis bird probably gobbled 50 times. When i shot the bird, 2 birds gobbled about 100 yards or so behind me.

Still been a good season so far. 1 more to go here in TN. Going to VA in 2 weeks for several days.

I had one of them "shory but sweet" hunts also this year. You take them as they come. Great Job.

Great Hunt Ron. Sometimes those flash hunts are a lot of fun. Sounds like the Turkey gods were on your side.
