1st public land bird
Well my day was kinda like a rollercoaster. I was hunting the Jefferson National Forest and didnt hear anything at daybreak so I started walkin up the ridges. I was a ways up the mountain when I heard one gobble basically right where I set up this morning, I should of had the patience and sat there. So I snuck back down the ridge and into the ravine workin my way down to him and then I heard putt putt he was at 20 yards but there was too much between us to shoot. I was not very happy at all guess there always closer than they sound. So I repositioned from where I scared him and made a call and it wasnt 5 minutes later I hear down the ridge the sound of one spittin and drummin but I couldnt see down the hill. Fortunatly he strutted up the steep ridge and popped out in front of me at 7 yards and I let him have it. When I shot I jumped up because he dissapeared down the hill and two other gobblers were with him. So I am even more excited there are more turks to hunt in that area. It was great morning shot him at 9:30 and checked him in and 7 other hunters had already checked birds in. Hope everyone else had a good morning.

Any bird you harvest on public land will likely hold a little extra sense of accomplishment within. Congrats!
