Displaying spurs?
I've got a box of turkey legs and am just getting around to trying to make a display for the spurs. Some of the really old spurs are starting to crack and decay. Does anyone know of a good way of preserving them (varnish, paint, polyurethane, etc) ? Thanks.

Once they have dried enough, the cap of the spur will sometimes come loose from the bone core. I have had luck supergluing the cap back on the bone. You can put a little glue around the base to seal the deal as there will likely be a crack between the two. I usually cut the spurs off right above and below the base within a week of killing him. I then cut off the scales and meat from the waxy line at the base of the spur cap and push a wire through the hollow part of the legbone to remove the marrow. If you let it dry after doing this for a day or two, it's pretty easy to take a dull knive and scrape all the meat that remains from the bone. I used to paint the white part glossy brown and when the paint dried I would give them a clear coat to make them look shiny and wet. Put them on a leather string with beads between and it looks fine:) Although I haven't taken the time to paint the last several I've killed.

Get a spur display board from Maytom, he makes the best I've seen.

The "I've seen the top of the mountain, and it is good" I heard somewhere but not sure where. The rest is mine
