Post Caught my poacher
We've been having some problems this year with someone poaching all over us(you may remember my earlier post when he shot a bird out from under me that was headed my way) and I'm happy to say I don't think we'll be having anymore trouble with him. I was supposed to meet one of our teenaged hunters after work yesterday evening and try and get him his first bird. He got there a little before me and happened to run into this character on the middle of my property. The poacher (I'll leave his name out of it), figured that he could bully this 16 year old kid and intimidate him by pushing him around a little. That's when I pulled up. I am by no means a huge guy, 5'11" and about 220, but I hit the gym hard every day. Not to mention I spent 4 years as a sniper in the Marine Corps and 6 years as a bouncer in some pretty rough bars. I'm really laid back and don't rile easy, but seeing him push this kid around did me in. After giving this guy a dose of his own medicine I took both his gun and his drivers liscense and told him he was more than welcome to pick either one up at the local sheriff's office where I would leave them with my compliments. Hopefully that will be the last of him on my place.

How much you want for the gun? Hendup i think you ought to change hendup to john wayne, glad you did what you did, thankful nobody got hurt. It definitely took some nerve. Poaching is a big problem i think moreso with turkeys, lot of oldtimers come from a day where you just hunt wherever you want, now their youngens are doing it. I admit its awful tempting when that bird is gobbling up a storm on the other side of the fence and so hard to find land to hunt on, but thats the great thing about turkeys they aint got to be on your land, a few yelps and they can be. people just dont live by the golden rule no more in giving permission or in staying where they have permission. I'd like to hear what comes of this, keep us posted.

I like the part about leaving his belongings at the sheriff's office.
Nice touch.
I just hope he doesn't try to turn it around on you by fabricating a story on how you came into posession of his gun and license.
If he will poach, he will lie!

As of today (Sun) he still hasn't picked up his gun or his liscense. One of the deputies is a friend of mine and he told me that they are going to pay their respects to him on Mon.
