Todays hunt
Me and Shane took off this a.m already agreeing it would be Shanes turn to call in one for me. After getting to our listening spot and hearing 3-4 birds gobbling next to my folks home was wondering if we made the right move. Shortly a gobbler sounded off 150 yda below and thanks for the rain yesterday we could move in quietly. The only thing was it was VERY foggy. After a tree call from Shane the bird responded but didn't want to fly down anytime soon. Shane then just shut up and about 45 min later i heard birds flying down opposite of were the gobbler was at. They hit 30 yds in front both of them were jakes. I knew that gobbler could see them and thought it wouldn't be long before he flew down thinking them jakes were going to beat him to the hen. Just then i heard him fly out of the tree and hit with themn jakes but when he hit the ground he was looking away from me. I then move the gun just a little to get him in my sight and the jakes started putting so i kneew it was now or maybe never so down he went. The only thing was when we got there to him he was also a jake with a 6 inch beard. I didn't want to do that but it happen but Shane was still happy that he called in a bird for his dad so that is all it matters. It was a great day out and heard plenty gobbling. By the way Max Shane said if them green callers call in jakes he wants his money back.
