hey guys just recently heard about this site.ive been a member of hunting.net for a while.im from lee county in the very southwestern tip of va.anyone else around this area having any luck this spring?i have a question real quick.is it possible that a lo pop. of birds will keep them a lil more queit? |

Glad to have you on board. This is my first spring on this site as well and I think you'll find it's a great group of people on here. As for you question, I would say that it's entirely possible to hear less gobbling with a smaller turkey population. It's possible that since there are so few birds in your area that they are all concentrated together and the gobblers wouldn't need to do as much gobbling to attract any hens. Plus, if you have a low number of turkeys then i would guess that there aren't as many birds that are there to hear. Just my two cents. Glad you found the site. Steve |

I had heard there was a real loss of new poults for a few springs in a row in the Lee Co area..friends who used to do well there are reporting a fraction of the birds now that were there say five years ago. Given the good number of birds in Tenn counties that adjoin Lee county I would say a couple of decent spring hatches could fix you up in a hurry. But there are definitely less birds there now than there used to be. |

Welcome RHhunter, I'm relatively new to this site myself but I promise you if you have a question these guys can answer it. As far as the quiet birds, with a low population, it could also be natures way of self preservation. But what do I know. Enjoy the site, barry |

Welcome aboard. Just my opinion here, but gobbling intensity is sometimes formed from their routines. Some of the national forest birds TScott and I hunt will sit in the tree and gobble very little if they are used to the hens coming through their area. Hunting pressure has taught them that gobbling could me big trouble. I'd say the population is average in our hunting areas but the gobbling is lower than average. I don't think we realize just how much pressure impacts birds. |
