Post subject:  Lost & Found

I was just reading Peacemakers post about his lost stiker...
I'm not sure if this has ever been posted before. I was wonder what have others lost or found while hunting or scouting the woods?

A few years back I lost my Schrade skinning knife up in the mountains of Va. I found it the next year in the case. It was at the bottom of an old tree stump where I sat my tree satnd. It was in bad shape the leather case was unfixable. The blade was really badly rusted and pitted very bad. I contacted Schrade. They sent me a nice leather case for free. My dad worked on the knife for a couple of weeks and it was usable, not pretty, just usable.

Do you believe it I lost it again about ten years later. I was using it to cut bait fishing on the beach. Have not seen it since.
Other things
Gloves ,Eye glasses, shells, wallet

we have had the discussion before, and I can remember a few things that jump out at me..I left the lucky glove under an oak late one season...went back the next year and found it. A little frayed, but I found it. Very critical JU JU. I left the 1000 dollar box under a tree one evening and after a sleepless night, went and got it aat daylight the next morning. Picked up several pocket knives dropped by somebody else over the years. I have spent hours looking for lost strikers. Usually when I lose strikers they stay lost for some reason. Found a poachers fresh turkey hanging in a tree on posted property one year; enjoyed it.

GN,

Do they taste better that way? I would think they would be a little sweeter. You sure someone didn't leave it there for you?

I would say they could run faster without a turkey....

I lost a knee pad for my shotgun to rest in, never found it. Later on I found a really nice hand muff just sitting on a log. I've lost face masks. One I found later the other a friend found for me. I too have lost strikers. Strikers seem to burrow under the leaves or the dirt or something! I'm sure there are a few other things. I just don't remember right now!

Found a shotgun one time leaning up against a tree. Pretty rusted and I was too scared to pick it up. My luck, it would have been used to commit a crime. Next time I checked the spot, the gun was gone. I consider that as one bad Gu Gu avoided!

I've been lucky to not lose many things in the woods. Good thing too since I have some very stong OCD tendencies that I struggle with.

I did call my wife from the woods early one morning because my crow call was not in my vest (I had already gone back to my truck and thoroughly searched it). Had her get up while it was still dark and search my office until she confirmed that I hadn't lost it. I was in a panic over a walnut crow call and ended up with a grumpy bride over it :D:D

The only thing I've found is a stiker, however, it was way up on a mountain in the middle of nowhere.

I have been know to loose knives while gutting deer... especially if it's a buck. I usually get so excited that I lay the knife in the leaves and then never see it again. I've donated a few Browning knives to the woods over the years... ouch.

So far after 3 years in the woods, I haven't lost anything (like Max or Ryan - knock on wood) but I guess that's why they like me going out with them...I find the stuff...Like Ryan's Green/Grey Grunt Call laying right in the middle of a tall field full of cattle and the stuff they deposit!!!

i've lost plenty of shotgun shells, gloves, and knives. I also tend to lose sunglasses, but not while hunting. I have found many treestands on posted property. When I find them on posted propery, i talk to the owner. If the owner doesn't know who it belongs to, he'll let me take it down. Usually, I'll move it somewhere else and hope the illegal hunter won't find it. I've also found hunters in my tree stands that are on private property. Have to be careful there, since they too are carrying a gun. Since they are already breaking the law, never know what they will do.

I've never found any strikers or things, but have lost plenty of strikers and slate callers.

Oh, I found a 22 rifle once. Was scared to touch it, so I called my friends dad who is a state trooper. He asked me if I could find it again, so I scowered the woods the next morning after my hunt to find it. They ran a check on it and didn't find any crime linked to it. I didn't really want the gun, so he kept and and did whatever with it.

I left my rifle leaning against an oak tree at the pipeline hunt club in cascade one morning while dragging a nice buck out of the woods.

I didnt give it a second thought until 2 days later when i was getting ready for another early morning hunt.

I realized where I had left it as soon as I realized it was missing so I drove like a mad man to the property, jumped out of the truck and ran to where I had last seen it. It was right where I left it a couple days before.

I killed another nice buck a couple hours later.

Usually, Im a pretty organized guy and I find more stuff than I lose in the woods.

Most interesting things I have found while hunting have included 3/4 million dollars worth of mary jane, numerous liquer stills and a dead body. By the way I didnt kill him.
