| Post subject: | foggy hunting is great |
this morning was great weather, except it was very foggy. Heard a turkey gobbling from about 500 yards away at around 6:20. I waited before I moved to see if anything else would gobble closer to me. I yelped a couple of times and the one 500 yards away went crazy. He gobbled for like a minute non stop. So, I ran through the woods, straight towards him. When he stopped gobbling, I stopped running and started tiptoeing. I could hear the hens around him yelping to him. He had shut up. It was very foggy, so I just eased on closer and closer. I sat down and yelped, and he was like 40 yards away from me, or so it sounded. Then another one blasted off about 80 yards to the right of him. Then it went silent. I waited 10, 20, 30 minutes. Nothing. Then I heard another gobble about 150 yards away. It sounded like the same bird, but I figured it couldn't be. I yelped anyways, and he gobbled back, but the onee that was right at me, nothing. Then the one in the distance got closer over time, about 50 yards out. It happened to be the same gobbler going back and forth with some hens. He wanted to come to me, but he didn't want to leave the pines he was in to come out into the open oaks. So, the next time he got a ways away from me, I got up and moved into the pines. With the fog so thick, I knew it would help me move around and not be seen. When I felt I was getting close to him, I started crawling until I found a big tree. I got set up again, yelped, and bang. He was right beside me about 60 yards. He gobbled hard. about a minute later, He was dead. I pulled him, and 4 hens right down my barrell. Luckily, he was in front so the hens didn't blow my cover. 18 pounds 7/8" spurs 9" beard It was a great hunt, and a very challenging one. It took me 2 1/2 hours to kill that bird. |

Yep the bob when the Ol Tom weaves is a good tactic with the right cover. God gave you a white blanket for cover on this hunt, way to use it to its fullest. Congrats and God Bless |

Fog can be a blessing or a curse at times. If it's heavy enough, you can't see squat in front of you. I think that at times the birds will stay in the tree's longer as well because of it. Congrats on your gobbler, sounds as though the fog wasn't to thick. |
