Post subject:  No race, King toppled

The first time in my life I have two stories in one season to tell.

I got up this morning and went to my honey hole where I shot my bird last week. I was right on schedule and climbed the leg burning mountain, for the 2nd time this week. I reached my location, the bottom between two ridges and went to sit down and heard a turkey fly off not 70 yrds from me. I was surprised because it was 20 minutes before day break. I took another step and another bird flew. I then plopped down right where I was and waited for daylight. Daylight came, no gobbles, two hens fly down right in front of me and walk over the ridge. Loving this hunting location I move silently on top of the ridge and sit down. It is 6:25am and I let out some soft yelps, nothing. 6:45, break out the box call and cut on it a little, heard two gobbles 300 yards away. Called again and no response. I sit and wait in silence. It is now 7:25am and I have heard nothing but I have been shown too many times that patience is the key to success in this game. I cluck and putt a couple times with my mouth call and bam, GOBBLLEEE not 100 yrds away. I put my gun to my shoulder, putt again and GOBBLLEE again. I look down the ridge and see the ol Tom running up the ridge at me. He gets 50 yrds I cluck he speeds up and at 30 yrds jumps up on this dead tree limb 3 ft in the air and half struts with his head stuck up high for all the world to see. It was like he was saying I am the king of these woods. I engrained this wondrous picture in my head and then proceeded to show him who the real king was and rolled him off his throne. I thank God for the wondrous day and for another successful morning as I look over the toppled king. He was another nice one, weighed 20.5 lbs, had a 10â€

Congrats on your first double story! Got to love it when after that leg burning climb, it all pays off with an experience like you had. I'm very happy for you.

That log deal does sound pretty neat. Way to take him when he is most exposed! Congratulations.

Congrats on a great hunt!!! I had a longbeard do that to me many years ago in NY... it came down a hill a little ways and then jumped up on a downed limb... it's breast feathers glistening in the bright sunlight.... I never did get a shot but it was quite a show.
