Good day to you all, I had a question if anyone could give some advise please. My dad and I went out yesterday and hunted like most of you did in the rain and got wet started out on a good set up but the birds thought otherwise so we just combed the area that we hunt and came up with nothing, but we knew they would eventually come to the fields in our area, so to make a long story short and the question at hand. It was eleven o'clock and sure enough we found a young tom and two hens in the field, my dad was able to get him to gobble and slow him down enough that I could crawl out into the field and get about 35 to 40 yard away from him. The gobbler finally stuck his head up enough that I could see his blue and white head and neck. I but the bead right on him a pulled the trigger, the bird jumped up on his toes and started flapping his wings as to tray and keep his balance, then he got himself gathered back up and started running into the woods like his tail feathers were on fire I tired two more shots but only to fail to kill him. My dad and I looked for at least an hour or more for the bird but could not find him, so my question too you kind people is do u believe that the bird will live and be ok or should I go back and look for him some more. I hope that the gobbler will be ok and live cause I dont like to wound any animal and not be able to retrieve it. So thank you for any answers you may give me, my dad and I are not first time hunters he said it has happened a couple times to him as well, but it just disapponted me and concerned me as well. Thank you for your time and suggestions. Happy and safe hunting to all who venture into the woods this spring.

P.S. I was able to get into the woods about 3 days before opening day and videotape 3 jakes and 1 adult gobbler with at least a 10 1/2 in beard and about 1 in spurs.

I would say that since all you could see was his head and neck, that it was probably a clean miss. He will probably make it. Just my 2 cents.
