Post subject: | Soggy Spring |
We are having an extremely wet spring and the ground is so soggy you can barely walk on it. I haven't been seeing or hearing the usual amount of turkeys as in a normal spring season. In fact, most of the gobblers seem to be henned up or will answer a shock call, but then they get lock jaw. Any advice from all you more experienced hunters on what to do with these soggy turkeys. |

been there...tough situation. my 2cents... -rely on your preseason scouting to tell you where to focus your time and energy if your birds arent gobbling. -focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient -stick with it, it will stop raining and they will start back to gobbling -focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient -if you don't have one, buy a tree umbrella so you'll be comfortable and dry while hunting in the rain -focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient -breeding will still be occurring even if weather patterns arent what we would desire -focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient -watch the NOAA weather forecasts closely...see if you can catch a high pressure system coming in early some morning...those clear, crisp mornings after a front has blown out that have 0% humidity can be some of the best days to hunt oh yeah...and one more thought -focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient |

So Diablo... when it's wet is it a good idea to focus on green fields and be patient? In all seriousness... great advice! |

Diablo can be a little confusing at times. To summerize... I think he's saying "focus your hunting around greenfields and be patient" |

I've got umbrellas and patience, but my fields are still white. Do you know of a web link where I can get the proper shade of green to color the fields? Should i use paint (oil or water based) or food coloring or some other type of dye? |

CD... crop duster with green foodcoloring mixed with water should do the trick...just watch out for all the air carp (geese) that'll draw in too... |
