And the word is "CORN"!! One of my hunting buddies killed one the other day and it was full of corn. My guess is if you would fly over Greene Co. you'd see several piles of yellow in several patches of woods.

birds in my areas in east tenn have totaly shut down. only one tree gobble from three diferent distant birds this am...thereafter, not a ground gobble or a hen peep.. nothing. They catch on pretty quick, don't they. |

Kenny you are dead right. We hunt a property in Grainger County that holds quite a few birds and the next property over has some fellas that put corn out year round. Even through season. You should have heard all the birds gobblin on that property opening morning. We are talking about 400 acres and i know i heard at least 8-9 birds and i could not tell you how many hens. I try to stay away from that end just because they put corn out and i do not want to be near the property line and get in trouble. Oh well ron |

Ron If I'm not mistaken the fine for hunting over bait is pretty healthy. The property I hunt on is surrounded by posted land. Last year I didn't hear a single shot. This year I've already heard at least six. I can't say for sure that someone is baiting or has permission to hunt, but all the turkeys I've seen where I hunt are heading down the ridge where all the shootings been coming from. They're in a big hurry, like they have to be some where at a certain time. I'll know only when and if I can kill one there. Maybe thats why the gobblers are so big?

They're henned up bad in Mid-TN. The LBs this morning were covered in hens and didn't gobble after they hit the ground. They were one farm too many to the north for me to put a stalk on too. I did call in 14 jakes at one time though. That'll make a bad caller like me feel a little more confident
