Another Blessed morning! #2 with pics!
Good morning guys and gals!
Don't ya love it when a plan or lack thereof comes together! I wasn't supposed to hunt this morning because my son was supposed to have a baseball game before the rain started. Well I woke up early, checked the radar and decided, meh... may as well give it a shot! I got settled into a blind, just incase the rain came in a little sooner, put a jake and hen decoy out in front and let the whipperwheels wake up the morning woods! Daylight started to break with nothing gobbling nearby! I kept checking the radar and my texts, to figure out if the game was going to happen or not, when I hear a distant gobble! I let out a couple loud aggressive yelps and he hammered back! Ok, let me check the phone again, and sure enough around 0730, the game got canceled and it appeared I had a little more time before that line of storms was going to work through! I decided to get aggressive and sure enough they gobbled back and slowly but surely got closer! I finally see him at about 80 yards strutting on the opposite ridge! All of a sudden, I hear loud scratching in the leaves right out front of me, when I see 4 or 5 hens that had snuck in on me! Literally perfect situation! Live hens on my side at 20 yards away, and that was all Ole boy needed! He broke from his strut zone and he and his look out buddy marched their way down the ridge and started up my side!! It was so awesome seeing his solid white head coming through the lime green landscape through the hardwoods strutting the whole way in to about 25 yards! I settled the vortex venom where it needed to be and let the 12 guage go to work! #2 down! Bedford County! About 20 pounds, almost 11 inch beard, and 1 and 1/8th inch spurs! I pulled the trigger at 0800!! Got some quick pics from my son and got him cleaned up! Right before that thunderstorm hit! Such a great morning! And again, congrats to those who have been able to take all these beautiful birds!!
