Post Stepping on Some Neck in Catlett, VA. #3!! Tagged Out!
Went to a farm in Catlett this morning and set up along a trail near a corner of a field where they’ve been roosting pretty regularly. Got all set up and this bird gobbled at 0550 and again at 0605.
Couple hens flew over me into field and a few minutes later he comes flying down (you can hear him fly down and hit the ground in video). He lands 30 yards to my left directly across from me.
He walks up the hill a few yards and gives me a 25 yd shot. I have my sights on his wattles but cannot see a beard and don’t want to shoot a Jake so I wait.
He walks off to the left just off camera and stands there for a few minutes looking for the hen he heard I guess.
When he does start to move he is walking hard to my left slightly behind me at 20 yds. I finally see his beard swinging so I spin around and he starts to move off having seen me move.
He couldn’t outrun a load of Federal Heavyweight 7s and down he goes!
23#
10” beard
3/4” needle point spurs

Congrats!!!!

My wife hit me with the “since you’re tagged out does that mean hunting season is over??” “No ma’am I know plenty of others with tags left in their pocket”

Same w my wife!! I got two buddies still looking to kill a bird, so I’ll do what I can to assist.
Hell, I go out and work birds now that I don’t plan on my buddies going after.
Season is short and won’t be back for 11 months
