Post Tennessee opening day—against all odds
]
I have been really hurting for three weeks with a severve pinched nerve or spinal stenosis problem I could not do any of the usual southern swing so there has been no spring training report. I’m fact I could not sleep for weeks and had all kinds of bad pain. Totally debilitating.

After getting a spinal epidural injection of cortisone and steroids two weeks ago I gradually begain to feel some relief. And was able to get to the field on the opening day of Tn season. I had a cousin who hunted with me

I had good scouting ion some birds for opening morning ,and we set up in the corner of a field where I had seen birds regular like. At very first hint of daylight five different birds started gobbling within earshot. Some within 100-125 yard.s Had put out a jake and couple hen decoys at 25 steps.

Made few light calls and one bird particularly was hammering them. That one was up higher behind us and he must have gobbles 25 times in ten minutes. At about 10 minutes after legal shooting time that big gobbler flew down off the mountain behind me and landed between us and the decoys. 15 yards. Sounded like a huge glider as the wings swept through the air.

I took the cash.

23 plus pounds. Big thick beard and nice spurs. I truly never thought I would be able to get out for this hunt. Blessed

Awesome! I’ve had a few spinal epidural injections myself. Glad it gave you the relief you needed to get out and have a great hunt.
Nice bird, too!
Congrats!

Congratulations, I do hope the pain was the last thing on your mind when you heard that bird gliding in. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

The only long odds were that any turkey that you had scouted would survive. Hope the back continues to improve.

Another triumph of scouting and skill over adversity. Hope your back continues to behave but if it keeps you closer to home the Tennessee turkeys will pay for it.

GN, that is the best news knowing that you are able to get out there and enjoy your passion.

Congratulations on a heavy hitter bird.

You've certainly been finding some heavy birds. Good job. Hope your back feels better in the future. I've been there. Hope I don't return. I used to have my chiropractor on speed dial. Get well.
