Post Passing it on.
It's been a rough year thus far. Just can't seem to find a gobbling bird. Called one in for a friend but that's it. I've taken my son out quite a few times and we've had silence. He's 18 now so I find it troubling that his motivation wanes faster than a 5 year old fishing. He'll swim through a mile of manure to play video games but only hunts with me when convenient. I've tried to keep him engaged but with limited success. It saddens my heart that he doesn't share my passion but I guess you have it or you don't. Any suggestions on how to keep him involved? I bet some of you have similar situations and maybe figured things out better than myself.

Hope you all have a great week.

Vic, it sounds like he may have case of the fume disease, gas fumes and perfume. Time is the only medicine and sometimes it does not work. I wish you the best.

My son went through same period in high school and part of college. He came back to it with a vengeance later. Stick with it.

I have one that loves it, but only hunted two days this year.. one with me.. college and work cut into his hunting a lot.. I have another that could care less.. I exposed them both to it early.. had a lot of success on youth days.. one took to it.. the other didn't .. they are individuals and you can't force anything on them..

I know I went through it myself.. after college I moved to AZ for 6 years.. didn't even have a gun out there (yeah stupid I now.. should have been hunting Merriams and Elk and Muley).. was more interested in starting my career and chasing let's call it "love" :) .. I came back to it though.. would always fly home to Deer hunt and my last spring out there I flew home to Turkey hunt and fell in love with it again..

Just keep asking him to go.. that's all you can do man..

Vic,

Been there with my kids and grandkids. They are not into the hunting but love the camping and fishing. I do miss them on the hunts but still good family times on the camping and fishing.

But the wife has got into the fall and spring turkey hunting.
