Been hard sledding with being out of town and sick for a while.. this was about my 8th day hunting VA on May 1st.. finally got a shot on one. Found two birds on 4/30 at a spot that was void of gobbles the first week .. they slipped by me that day.. I learned a few things.. went back on 5/1 and setup the way they had gone, of course they didn't do the same thing, but made a detour up and around through a funnel in the woods.. I made a couple moves but ended up almost back where I started, and they got in behind me in the woods somehow.. they had to cross my path just after I had moved on them once.. then they next gobbled in the field not 100 yds from my original setup... anyway I made one more small move and finally laid eyes on them. There were actually three of them, one just didn't gobble I guess. I had to follow up with a second shot, but he was anchored pretty good after the first shot luckily.

Good job. I killed my second, a two year old, on 4/30 but it has been very tough sledding for me since then. I have seen a lot of turkeys but they have not been very responsive. Last Friday I fooled with some turkeys in a pasture (with decoys), saw two gobblers, two jakes, and two hens. The jakes came in, the dominant gobbler got with the hens and jakes and paid not attention to me at all. The subordinate gobbler came in but periscoped over a little rise at about 35 yards four times, I was afraid to shoot because the jakes and hens were in the same general area out of sight and although I am sure it was a male turkey head, I was not sure it was the gobbler. I passed this same bird the second week after I had a miss early in the week and I wanted to be "sure". The wind has really screwed me this week so far.
