For the last 2 weeks the birds I've been hunting have had lockjaw.
Yesterday we found some that were talking. Went to one of my honey holes and as daylight broke several birds gobbled on the roost pretty close to our setup only to go the other way off the roost. Soon another bird spoke up and even answered a call and we soon started a conversation.
Now most of y'all know that I use tube calls 99.9 % of the time and for the most part I use home made pill can calls as I've done for the past 27 years.
Today was different as these birds liked the sound that was coming out of the Mark Prudhomme tube call I was using. YES I was using a mass produced tube call BUT I don't hunt with any call that doesn't have turkey in it. When I first got the call I checked the dimensions and they were spot on for what I think a tube call should be.
Fast forward...I'm working what turns out to be 3 birds well away from our setup when my buddy says "Sh*t, he's right here!"
Less than 20 yards to our right is a white headed strutter that had snuck in and was going straight to the dekes. He struts thru wheat that is over his head, gets to the dekes set up in short grass, stands still and game over.
I was once again blessed with a great bird that had some unique colored spurs!

Very cool. Congrats. I need to start playing with tube calls for a unique sound.
