With the warm weather making me dream of turkey season I wanted to know what everybody's favorite call is,mine personally is my raspy old hen box call by HS strut that i won at a contest last spring.

I use 2 types of calls, box and mouth. When up close and personal, mouth calls have an edge because the lack of movement.

Most folks would say which ever one the turkey answers too. So that can cover a wide range but the one I use the most is a wingbone, the backup is a box or scratch box. If I strike a bird with a particular call I will usually stick with that call working him all the way in.

A good old slate call sounds good and has good range. I like to use mouth calls also. Like said before less movement, but watch the volume. When that bird hangs at 70 yards, sit back relax and switch to the slate, soft I mean really soft clucks and yelps. Another great call is nature, use the leaves around you, sound like a feeding turkey. Calling is about 10% of the hunt, woodsmaship and knowing the bird are key.

My go-to mouth call is the Woodhaven Red Vyper and my friction call is my Knouse Trap. Love them both!

There's a man who trout fishes in Hampton VA at the pond behind the athletic center and makes awesome mouth calls. Talked to him, heard him call. Impressive, but I forgot his name/call brand. Anyone know him? VA calling championship in 2006 and 2007.

I am partial to mouth calls.. seems I kill more with them than anything.. but I carry a box, a pot ... and a wingbone.. killed turkeys with all of them.. but if I have to take only one it would be a Tom Teaser.. Teaser Pleaser mouth call.
