Grouse on Quantico
It has been 25 plus years since seeing or hearing a grouse on Quantico. But this past spring that changed. I was taking out a young lady biologist that just got her Masters degree. We were walking down a woods road when she said she heard a bird (young ears). So we stopped to listen and about that time I heard a bird taking flight about 15 yards in front of me. What went through my mind was dis-believef. But then a second one flew up and I was speechless. We stood there in shock, then got photos of the area and GPS coordinates. The biologist there at the Q , well she was overwhelmed. She has had from the deer hunters survey this past fall that a couple hunters reported sighting but no location.

Re: Grouse on Quantico
That's great news. We had something similar here at APG. I have pictures of a cock pheasant, I too was in disbelief. Kinnd of like seeing a chimera. Others saw him this fall and I saw him early spring while scouting for turkey. The top of his head was white like a turkey. He chased after my truck quite a ways. Guess he saw his likeness in the chrome bumper. I hope he finds some mates and gets to it. V
