I would like to tell y’all I called this bird across 3 creeks, over a fence, and away from 10 hens but that just wasn’t the case. This bird was the side kick to the bird I killed the first Sunday. Since then he has taken over the patch of woods his buddy use to run. My dad has hunted him the last 2 days, seeing him with 3 hens and then hearing him yesterday. This morning we had a plan for my dad to go where he saw him strutting 2 mornings ago and I was gonna go on the other side of the patch of woods he was using to roost in. I slipped into the patch of woods well before light and tip toed about 35 yards off the field and set up on the edge of where tall pines met open hardwoods. As the sky got light I noticed a single black blob in a tree about 40 yards to my front right. Sure enough it was a turkey and it was still squatted down on the branch. As it got lighter the black blob started strutting. Turned out I snuck in right by the gobbler I was after and he had no clue I was there. Soon he was strutting constantly and rolling off the gobbles. About fly down time he stretched his wings and pitched down right in front of me to 25 yards. Once on the ground he walked a couple steps and stopped behind a large white oak, giving me a chance to make last of my adjustments. Soon he started out the other side of the tree. 6:30am and about 5 steps of being on the ground, it was over. This was the first bird I shot with the Apex TSS #9’s out of the 20 guage and it absolutely ate him up.

Sitting down in the right spot is usually the biggest part of it. Congrats!
