SC trip SUCCESS
Well SC was good to me. But man o man was it tough hunting. The birds in the part of the state I was hunting were tight lipped on the limb. Did not hear a peep either morning. This farm is a friend of the family but they are not turkey savvy. I did a ton of google earth scouting just trying to find a good starting spot for my first morning. Got down Thursday eve but to late to try and roost a bird. I set out yesterday morning with high hopes but by 9am and zero gobbles I was somewhat discouraged but I’ve been chasing these birds long enough to know it only takes a second to change the outcome of your hunt. I decided to do a lil run and gunning and check out other parts of the farm and just enjoy what the good LORD has created for us. I walked until about 1130 and basically came back to where I had started. I set back up in this area ( big open pines) and let out a soft series of yelps and had a gobbler gobble about 200 yards off. Game on. I yelped again and gobble 150 yards away. At this point I’m scanning looking for that white head. Then I see the sun reflect off his fan. He steps out into the sun and just let out the most chest rattling gobble. I purred and 1 little cluck and that sealed his fate. He strutted gobbled and spit and drummed all the way to my avian x hen. I ended his show and went to him to put the ol boot on the head. No matter how many of these frustratingly incredible birds I am blessed to harvest I feel so honored to have beaten one of the most formedable opponents that GOD created. From first gobble until the hammer dropped maybe 5 minutes. He weighed 18 pounds, 10 inch beard and 1 inch sharp spurs. Saw 4 gobblers today but they were happier picking bugs than hens today. Headed home this after noon to beat the weather. Had a great trip and look forward to going back next year. I’ll send wvboy a pic of the bird and see if he can post it for me.

Love those "coming in on a rope birds". Doesn't happen that often, but when it does you can often be caught with your pants down. Congrats.

Re: SC trip SUCCESS
Very nice report. I think it always really extra exciting when I go "cold turkey" in to new unexplored potential turkey country and can come out with a nice LB. Glad you had fun and scored...
