Swampfox, the Winchester Longbeard XR 2 3/4" is a good round to try. Cabelas has it on sale for $16/box I shoot the 3" #6 out of my 12 ga. Rem 11-87 that I got in 1984 w/ a Tru-Glo Banser .670 ported and it shoots very well. I used to shoot #5 and it patterned really well, too.

brndwg - Thank you for the reply. That is a nice pattern at 40Yards. In 2 3/4 - Midway has the Super X and Long Beard XR: The Long Beard XR has Shock-Lock,to hold I tighter pattern with 1 1/4 shot. The Super X does not have shock lock, but has 1 1/2 shot. Both shot around 1300FPS. I plan to pattern both out of my 1100, using the Carlon Turkey Choke Long Beard XR 0.660 Thx, SwampFox |

Scott, hope the 20 gauge fixes your issues. I'm sure it will. Ol' Three Toes has been hunting with the 20 gauge for a long time now, so I'm sure it will do the trick. I've gone the other direction. I hunt with a single shot 10 gauge now. Couldn't shake the discussions of the early years here on the board and GN's 10 gauge. Killed a few birds with it so far. It does kick on both ends for sure, but it just feels nostalgic hunting with a a single shot. |

Just a word of Caution.. make sure you also shoot your 20 GA at 10 or 15 yds with a scope on it and the Hevi or TSS shells.. I missed one this past weekend at 8 yds in TN with Hevi and later when I shot it at 15 yds it was 2 inches high and 3 inches left, so at 8 yds I'm sure it was even less forgiving.. This after my son killed one with it 7 hours earlier at 20 yds.. |

Thanks for all the tips mentioned in this article! it’s always good to read things you have heard before and are implementing, but from a different perspective, always pick up some extra bits of information. |
