Thanks for the info Hawglips. I must say I am impressed at even the 20 yd pattern in a 10 inch circle, not as tight as I would have thought.

The close distance patterns aren't as tight as other loads because of the sheer number of pellets in each shell due to smaller shot size and being able to use a more open choke.
In my 12 ga 870 I'm getting 330/290 in the 10"/20" circles at 40 with an extra full .680 choke and TSS 9's. I wouldn't say that's a dense core like when I shot hevi-shot or lead because the whole 20" pattern is dense. The same shell out of the same gun with an Indian Creek choke gives 390/250 and that's still a lot of pellets outside the core of the pattern to provide a margin of error in the woods.
What Striker has done with 8's out of a 20 ga is very impressive. If he'll post again, I'd like to know what the 20" number on the pattern was.

That is an awesome pattern. That bird would really soil that back of a truck after being hit with that. Man, can't imagine a close hit, probably rip his head clean off. good work there.
Guess I am too cheap to buy that TSS, what does it cost per pound these days? I just keep shooting my old Winchester HV 3" mags.
Now, for snow geese I might think about shot like that. I would want more spread though. Our best was 23 geese with 10 shots using T shot.

Vic If you want a pellet that penetrates like a steel T, you would need to go with #8s in TSS. But instead of about 50 pellets per ounce that steel Ts give, you'd get 250 per ounce. So, there's lots of pellets to spread around. But you're talking shot in the neighborhood of $50/lb.
