Good job guys!
Probably the best weather in several years. Checked the property i was gonna hunt, friday evening. Saw 2 longbeards and 8 hens feeding in one of the lower fields. Thought i was in pretty good shape. Got in early and setup about 150 yards from where i thought they roosted. About 10 minutes before daylight, i see a flashlight coming across the field and straight to where i thought the turkeys were. Yep, they are there. OR they were:( Oh well, spent the rest of the day trying to get back on them but to no avail. Sunday, i moved to another property that had good sign several weeks ago. Daylight came and at least 4 birds were sounding off. I was on an opposite ridge from them. Heard hens fly down and gobblin stopped. I setup to far up the ridge. About 30 yards out there was a down treetop that i should have gottten in front of but hindsight is always 20/20.
Well after 10 minutes of soft purring and clucks, I see a white and blue head on the other side of the down tree. He was moving left to right and if he kept going, i would have a 35 yards shot when he cleared the tree. I had to shift and sure enough, just the slightest move and...PUTT PUTT PUTT PUTT. Hen behind me. BUSTED. He was gone. Tried 3 different times to setup on birds only to have the dreaded hens take em away.
I HATE HENS! Still had a good time and hopefully this weekend will be better.
