Anyone having any luck with dove? Our club lease has a big cutover on top of it that always has a lot of them but it's grown 3 feet in the last year. They sit on the edge of the road & fly straight into the trees on the other side. I shot a box of shells Sunday & didn't hit one of them but I delimbed and topped a few pines. It was 85 degrees by noon, I was out of shells and the dog drank all his water, so we packed it in.

I took my Franchi 28 ga out and got a few shots Labor Day weekend.

Don't dove hunt but a good looking dog. Turkey dog?

Guys that hunt up around here say the dove hunting is poor.

I wouldn't call him a turkey dog yet, but he's getting there. Pretty good at finding them and really good at busting them, but getting him to calm down afterward is a bit of a challenge.

Sounds like mine. Patch is only 1.6 years but has really progressed well in finding following up on scent and busting them. But only good for laying quietly at the set up for 10 minutes, but showing improvement over the last few set ups.

For me the busting is really the fun part of it though. Most times I'm actually laughing so hard at all the chaos it takes me longer to settle down than the dog.

I believe that is so true of many dog hunters. Watching and listening to the barking and bust, seeing birds fly and then when the dog returns the excitement the dog shows to you and almost saying, how did I do was that good or what and then that excitement transfer over into to you.

There is a big bond between the hunter and their dog. From pointing dogs to retrieving, chasing and flushing.
