this has been a wet fall in southern appalachia and the recent cold weather has brought on a real good crop of oyster mushrooms in the woods...any of you guys familair with this type of fall mushroom and are you having any luck colecting many? |

http://www.conservation.state.mo.us/nathis/mushrooms/mushroom/index.htm Look at this site and scfroll down to oyster mushroom description...they like rotting willow and maple logs and stumps...they are somewhat chewyier than morels and tasta a lot more like the mushrooms you wouldbuy in astore...just butter fry them with salt and pepper. especially look for them after a cold front follows a rainy period. Please ask someone knowledgable who KNOWs that you are eating the right ones before you start... |
