Here's the story. I was hunting a steep hollow where I could see across in to a laurel thicket. I hunt this area often and have taken several good bucks there. Had not seen a thing all morning. About 10:00am I heard deer coming through the laurel and I could tell it was a buck chasing a doe but I had no idea how big the buck was. They stopped well over 100 yards down the ridge and across the hollow from me so I decided to grunt a couple of times to see what would happen. The deer went over the ridge away from me and I thought that was it. Didn't figure I would see them again. About 5-10 minutes later, while I'm still sitting there saying oh well, maybe next time, I hear deer way below me in the hollow. Then I hear a buck grunting like crazy and for the first time, I hear the clicking sound which told me he was a good buck and in full rut. Still couldn't see the deer so I decided to grunt twice more and that made the difference. No more than 2 minutes go by and here comes the doe straight toward me and then I saw this big boy behind her and I like to fell out of the chair. The doe continued up the ridge angling away from me and I stopped the buck at about 40 yards with some shaky mouth bleats. I shot and the buck dropped in his tracks. I waited about 20 minutes to move to recover the buck because when he fell, I could't see him. During that time the doe never left. She kept circling and looking back and I finally had to run her off. After gutting him, I realized I had hit him right in the heart. Don't know how I managed that because I was shaking like a leaf. This is by far my biggest buck. The rut is amazing.

that is a nice one. I killed one on the 9th that was a eight pointer with a 20" outside spread. It sounds like those two days were good for the both of us.
