Went hunting on Saturday morning.3 guys ,3 dogs and 0 flushes in 4 hours of hunting . I have been hunting grouse for 32 years and have never been shut out. I have a couple of other places to try but I do not have high hopes. Looks like a duck hunting year for me since I don't deer hunt. |

VGH, Went opening day, all day. 6 flushes-no grouse. with dog. wet leaves and 1st day ,Grouse still wouldn't let us in the same county w/ them before getting up. that told us...old grouse. I don't think they had a hatch. Did run into 3 bunches of turkeys though, looks like they did allright. Hope to go later this week if it cools off but mighty discouraged on the outlook. |

same here in Tenn on the OLD grouse theory...went first time yesterday...10 month old setter pointed three diffeent birds..all were too slippery though , flew straight dwonhill off the edge in impenetrable jungles, and I had no shooting chances. All three birds were exactly where I left a cagey old one last february, so I suspect they are still hanging on, having reared no young dumb ones. Grouse aren't born as geniuses, so, these had been around awhile. |

Haven't bumped a single grouse this year in my treks turkey/deer hunting. Doesn't look good in VA.
